The British Alpaca Futurity 2011—
Wrapping Up
The 2011 British Alpaca Futurity was the most successful yet with over 380 alpacas entered in the halter classes, over a hundred fleeces in the European fleece show and a record number of photographic, craft and art entries. The celebration dinner was a sell-out with 160 people at the champagne reception and fashion show followed by dinner.
The Futurity Champion Huacaya Herdsire was Dovecote Jaquinto of Alpaca Stud, co-owned by The Alpaca Stud and Classical MileEnd Alpacas. The Futurity Champion Suri Herdsire was Alpaca Stud Inca Fusion, co-owned by The Alpaca Stud and Spring Farm Alpacas.
The most successful Small Breeder award went to Fiona Smith of Simply Suris, the most successful Medium Breeder went to Tim and Tracey Hey of Inca Alpaca and the most successful Large Breeder award was won by Mary Jo Smith and Joy Whitehead of Bozedown Alpacas.
The Futurity Champion Huacaya fleece went to Houghton King owned by Fallowfield Alpacas and the reserve to Bozedown Opportunity owned by Bozedown Alpacas. The Futurity Champion Suri fleece went to Bozedown Almond, owned by Bozedown Alpacas and the reserve to Spring Farm Josephine owned by Spring Farm Alpacas.
The new awards of Judge’s Choice huacaya went to Houghton Magenta of Houghton Hall Alpacas and the Judge’s Choice suri to Popham Suri Dream Catcher of Popham Alpacas.
In the photographic, art and craft classes eight ‘Best in class’ awards were given. Nick Harrington Smith was awarded the purple rosette for the best photograph, Karen Childerley the adult art award and Alexandra White the junior art award. Sarah Butters won the prize for the best hand spinning, Susan Martin the best hand woven, Mrs E. Taylor the best crochet, Barbara Humphreys the best felting and Kin Roach the best junior needle felting.
