British Alpaca Futurity 2012

Halter Show Classes

Under the Futurity system entries for the halter show classes have to satisfy either points 1 and 2 and satisfy point 3 and 4 below:

1: Entries must be progeny of a sire whose owner has nominated him for the Futurity and have agreed to pay the appropriate fee. All such nominated herd sires must be registered on the BAS UK Registry on or before 14th January 2012. A full list of nominated sires will be available on the website.

Alternatively exhibitors should directly approach the sire owners to verify nomination before making their entries

2: For situations where stud owners are not willing to pay the nomination fee or the owner of an alpaca to be entered wishes to enter their alpaca without the sire being nominated, the entry will be welcome upon payment of a nomination waiver entry fee of £65 plus VAT per entry. The sire of such entries must be registered on the BAS UK Registry on or before 14th January 2012.

In these circumstances such sires will not be eligible for the 10% of progeny prize money, will not be listed on the Futurity website or in the event catalogue. The exhibitor will however still receive prize money and placing awards as per other entries and the entry will be eligible for the Judge’s Choice award

3: All entries must have been born in the UK

4: All entries must be made by completing the appropriate booking form or online through the BAS Registry.

Judged show classes will be held for all colours in Huacaya and Suri up to the adult classification of less than 48 months of age and must satisfy the above conditions.

Classes will be split where large numbers are entered. Maximum per class will be limited to 12 entries ensuring more exhibitors receive rosettes and benefit from hearing the judge’s oral reasoning.

Rosettes will be awarded to sixth place in all classes where such numbers are entered. Champion and Reserve sashes will be awarded for each colour section and Champions will then move forward for the Judge’s Choice class.

Subject to successful sponsorship funding being received, prize money will be paid for all rosette placings, colour reserve and colour champions. In addition, the Futurity will pay to the nominated sire owners, a total of 10% of all winnings made by their progeny throughout the show.

The Futurity Champion Herd Sire 2012 will be awarded to the nominated sire whose progeny have won the most points throughout the show. Only the top nine performing progeny of each nominated sire will contribute towards the award. The points to be allocated for each progeny placing will be:

Class Placing Points Awarded
1st 12
2nd 10
3rd 8
4th 7
5th 6
6th 5
Reserve Colour Champion 15
Colour Champion 18

The award for the Most Successful Small Breeder based on the above points system, will be made to the breeder with less than 20 breeding age females. Breeding age will be determined as being 12 months or over on 31st December 2011.

Exhibitors eligible for these awards must tick the box indicated on the entry form. Confirmation of status will be verified with the BAS Registry.

Exhibitors eligible for these awards must tick the box indicated on the entry form. Confirmation of status will be verified with the BAS Registry.

Breeders are urged to ensure all registrations for 2011 or earlier born females are completed prior to 31st December 2011.

Penning will be available for all exhibitors and the Futurity will assign appropriate penning for all alpacas according to numbers and sex. In addition, no exhibitor will share penning space with alpacas from another farm and each farm’s penning will be separated from others by an acceptable distance.

Mains power suitable for pen fans can be provided for an additional cost of £85 plus VAT. These costs are determined by the NEC electrical contractors, over which we have no control. Please ensure you tick the appropriate box on the entry forms to order.

As part of their alpaca entry fees, breeders exhibiting alpacas will be allowed to hang their banners on the penning hurdles, if such space is available to them. Such banners must not extend above the height of the top of the hurdles.

Owners must not utilise any part of their allocated penning as a farm promotional space. Alpaca owners may apply for official Farm Promotional Pens, which will be placed adjacent to where their alpacas are penned. Such application must be made on the appropriate form.

All breeders will also be able to leave their farm promotional material free of charge within the specially designated area for alpaca breeders’ information situated on the main floor outside the penning area.

All exhibitors are reminded to ensure their show team will be in a proper and normal healthy state, have been wormed within 14 days of the event or have had recent acceptable faecal egg counts and there have been no suspicious deaths on the farm. Inspection stewards will be applying rigorous procedures during inspections and any entry deemed to be in poor body condition, appearing to be unwell, coughing or scouring will be immediately quarantined. Should such an incidence occur, the owner/handler will be asked to immediately remove the alpaca from the event. Signing of the entry form confirms your acceptance of these conditions.

Disinfection mats will be in place at exhibitor entrances and the Futurity ask all exhibitors to ensure handlers and alpacas enter and leave the main building only over these mats.

All exhibitor penning will be by farm, with no shared pens and with the recognised spacing in place between each farm pen group.

Bedding will be provided but exhibitors must provide their own feed and water containers and be responsible at all times for the welfare of their alpacas and the cleanliness of their penning.

Exhibitors are also reminded to ensure their penning remains clean and tidy, with waste or soiled bedding removed on a regular basis to avoid such contamination being taken into the collecting and show ring.

Everyone’s support and commitment to these conditions will be much appreciated by the Futurity group and all of its exhibitors.

The Futurity is delighted to be able to offer free of charge to all Champion and Reserve ribbon winners and Judge’s Choice winners the opportunity to have a photograph of their winning alpaca taken by the official Futurity photographer. Champion and Judge’s Choice winners will also receive as part of their award, an engraved photo frame.

This opportunity will also be available to all exhibitors wishing to have a photograph taken of their alpaca(s). A charge of £15 per alpaca will be made for this, payable at the time. We regret there will be no cheque or credit card payments accepted for this service.

Would handlers please note that Futurity dress code when handling alpacas in the show ring will be black trousers with white shirt. No white overcoats or training shoes (Trainers) will be allowed.

The Futurity 2012 judge will be Val Fullerlove (UK)) Show secretary Mary-Jo Smith, Chief Steward Iain Smith.

Subject to successful sponsorship funding being received, prize money will be awarded to place winners, colour reserve and colour champion winners. All nominated herd sires receive 10% of their progeny winnings.

Prize money will be paid by cheque as soon as possible after the event and upon all outstanding invoices to exhibitors, sponsors and other revenue sources having been paid. Such amounts will be determined by the British Alpaca Futurity organising group, whose decision will be final, following determination of the total value of sponsorship and exhibitor entry fees less penning and direct costs.

Entry fees per alpaca entry will be split between penning and show entry charges. Penning costs contribution will be fixed at £10 plus VAT and show entry costs will be £30 plus VAT making total entry fees per alpaca of £40 plus VAT. For those exhibitors making Option 3 Non-Nominated Sire Entries the penning costs contribution will be fixed at £10 plus VAT and show entry costs will be £55 plus VAT making total entry fees per alpaca of £65 plus VAT.
